Posted on December 21st, 2009
Northwest Federal Credit Union is offering a 3.65% APY 5 year CD with a minimum balance of $25,000. If you deposit over $100,000 the rate jumps to 3.75% APY and lower rates are available for smaller deposits. You can also get higher rates than advertised if you’re a Premier Checking members or Heritage Club member. So if you’re interested in getting this rate it’s probably worth your time to open one of those accounts for a rate boost. To visit their site click here.
Northwest also has a 2 year Add-On CD with a 2.39% APY with only a $500 minimum deposit. You’re allowed to add on as much as you want as many times as you want for added flexibility. Credit Union CDs still seem to have an edge over bank certificates of deposit at this time.
Northwest credit union membership is open to members of the American Consumer Council (ACC) and to select employee groups. Membership requires a $5 deposit into a share savings account.
If you’d like to open an account in person, Northwest FCU’s has branches located throughout Virginia. The CD deals are available nationwide however.
Northwest has a 4 out of 5 star soundness rating from bankrate and is NCUA insured.
