4 Credit Cards That Fight High Gas Prices

Posted on January 23rd, 2012

With gasoline prices on the rise again, it’s a good time to take a look at credit cards that can help you defray at least some of those higher prices.

The cards below have some of the most generous rewards on gasoline purchases, but also carry a warning: Many carry very high annual percentage rates.

Here are some of the best gas rewards credit cards:

PenFed Platinum Cashback Rewards Visa Card

The best gas rewards card isn’t issued by an oil company, but by Pentagon Federal Credit Union, one of our favorite financial institutions.

The card pays 5% back on gasoline purchases at the pump no matter where you fill up.

In addition, it has one of the lowest APRs around: 9.99% on purchases through June 30, 2014, after which it can change if the prime rate does.

Through March 31, there’s a 1.99% APR on balance transfers for 24 months. Along

Make the Most of Your Credit Cards

Posted on March 1st, 2011

Credit cards are often seen as the root of all financial evil. This is largely down to the fact that, until fairly recently, credit has been so easy to come by and credit cards are usually the most convenient way to carry out a transaction. Problems can then arise when people become irresponsible and let balances build up at the end of each month as that is when the high interests rates can begin to take their toll and the debts can mount up.

But providing that you are sensible and use your cards correctly then they are a great way to manage your personal cash flow and can save or even make money for you!

You just need to have the right cards and use them in the right way.

Managing cash flow

What to Do With Too Many Credit Cards

Posted on January 21st, 2011

If you’re like many people, you have several credit cards in your wallet. If you have a balance on several cards, chances are you have too many credit cards to manage effectively. The interest is eating a lot of the payments you send in each month, and the more cards you have the easier it is to lose track of how much debt you really owe.

You could improve your financial situation by reducing the number of credit cards you use to about two: one for your regular use, and another as a backup card for emergency use.

Reduce Credit Cards to Simplify Finances

Take a look at each of your credit card statements to find out how much you owe and how much interest each card is charging you. You will probably find you’re paying an average of 15% interest on your credit card balances.

If you can get a 0% balance transfer card with a limit high enough to transfer all of your other cards to it – this will help you consolidate your credit card debt and pay it off faster. Inste

Posted on November 28th, 2009

A congressional effort was supposedly in effect to help holiday shoppers who are picking up the tab with their credit cards this season, however it looks like this proposed law will be pushed back until February. This bill was aimed at thwarting the increase in APR hikes in which almost all major credit card companies are implementing.

A recent CNN article claimed that, “Tough new rules are already slated to go into effect on Feb. 22. The new rules, enacted by President Obama in May, prohibit banks from hiking interest rates on existing balances of fixed-rate cards unless the cardholder is two months late in paying the bill.

The article went on to state that, “interest rates on consumer credit cards have been increasing steadily since the second quarter of 2008, when rates were 11.88%. Sin

Best credit cards and debit cards to use when traveling abroad

Posted on October 5th, 2009

If you are a frequent traveler or have ever vacationed overseas then you have probably come in contact with foreign exchange fees issued by your bank or credit union. If you are about to embark on an overseas adventure and are doing you homework as to who offers the lowest foreign exchange fees then you may have noticed that this amount varies fairly drastically with each institution.

A recent USA Today article conducted a fairly comprehensive study on just this topic and we’d like to reiterate some of the more noteworthy conclusions they made on BankVibe.

Perhaps one of the most important strategies to remember when spending money overseas is to use plastic! Use credit cards for the big purchases (such as plane tickets, hotels stays, train tickets, etc) and use debit cards for all local cash withdrawals. Ac
